The area began in the middle 70s. Dave Felix was the first area director. Meetings were held in a store front on Lincoln Ave. in Totowa, NJ. The state track and field event was held at McGuire Air Force Base. It was only a one day event back then. The number of programs involved were far fewer than there are now. The winter games were held at Legends in Vernon NJ. Stan Javitz was the next director and his meetings were held at the NJDC in Totowa, NJ. More programs became involved. William Paterson's football field was used for the area track and field event for many years before moving to Wayne Valley High School. The State Track and Field event moved to William Paterson College, followed Princeton University, and is now held at Trenton State / College of NJ. Rich Deska is the present Director.
